Production of secondary metabolites via plant cell culture is a promising b iotechnological process for producing high-valued pharmaceutical products, suc h as cosmetics and pigments etc. Stizolobium hassjoo suspension cell culture w as adopted to produce 3,4-dihydroxyphenylalanine (L-DOPA) which is known as to be effective in treating Parkinsons disease. A medium which favors the pl ant cell growth may be not optimal for producing secondary metabolites and vic e versa. Therefore, the effects of the constituents in MS medium on L-DOPA pro duction were investigated.
